Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo Biloba is one of the best known and studied herbal remedies. It is considered the oldest tree on earth, with a history of 200 million years behind it. It is in fact the only plant species belonging to the Ginkgoaceae family, (group of gymnosperms) that has not died out more than one hundred million years ago and has survived intact to this day.
Its first use in the medicinal field dates back to remote times, around 2800 BC, as a tonic remedy against old age and allergies in traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, in the health field, the leaves picked in May are used, as they are still of a deep green color and from which it is possible to obtain a dry extract rich in terpenes (ginkgolides A, B, C) and flavonoids (mainly quercetin, Kaempferol, miricetin .. etc ..).
The health activity of Ginkgo Biloba is due to the synergistic and integrated action of all the components present, especially in the vascular-cerebral system.
Ginkgo Biloba appears to have a neuro-protective and antioxidant effect, stimulating cognitive function, in particular, in cases of brain damage and degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. It can also be effective as an adjuvant in the maintenance of micro-blood circulation, stabilizing capillary permeability and improving the structural and functional integrity of arteries and venules.
